Fabula Botanicals staff are celebrating with family over Christmas and New Year and trying to get some time on our local beach and walks (for a change). While we still be around and working a little bit, please accept our apologies if we take a little bit longer to respond to or process your enquiry or order from Christmas Eve until 10th January.
Made specifically for those of us with an eczema-prone skin, this vegan body oil soothes the irritation and inflammation of a flare up, whilst deeply hydrating the skin when it is struggling to lock in moisture. With a combination of organic botanical infusions, nz natives and essential oils in a carrier oil of gentle apricot oil, this product is lightweight and absorbs quickly without leaving an oily residue. Where skin is dry and cracked, it will help to re-connect cells of the epidermis cells whilst working as a pain-relieving barrier for the skin, keeping moisture in, skin smooth and external irritants out.
Essential oils used are not only powerhouses for eczema, but also chosen for their ability to support emotionally as eczema can cause a lot of stress. There's sandalwood, which is one of my favourite essential oil because it promotes deep tranquility. It is one of the oldest known aromatics and has been used for over 4000 years. It is cooling, soothing and moisturising to the skin and primarily used for skin conditions where moisture loss causes inflammation. It has a relaxing effect on the nerves and is very useful for agitation. German chamomile has wonderful anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties and is considered one of the gentlest essential oils. It is very beneficial for treating children, is important for itchy skin, reduces heat and dryness. It also eases stress and helps insomnia and headaches. Myrrh has also been used since ancient times and has made its way into ointments and salve recipes made by the Greeks and Romans. It helps with weepy eczema as well as healing cracked and chapped skin. Being anti-microbial, it helps reduce the possibility of infection whilst on an emotional level it is gently calming and brings inner stillnes and peace.
Botanical infusions have been chosen for their anti-inflammatory qualities - nettle is nutrient rich (vitamins A and C) and known to reduce pain. It also has anti-histamine properties making it very useful to reduce itching. Chickweed is an emolient which relieves itch and inflammation. It has a cooling effect on the skin and there a few skin conditions it cannot help. Licorice root has widely been used for eczema as it has strong anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy effects and raises the body's level of naturally produced steroids. Kawakawa is anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and analgesic nz native long used as a remedy for eczema.
Directions: Massage into affected areas twice daily. This is gentle enough to be used on the face under your normal moisturiser (only a small amount is needed). Also very helpful in the bath - place a few drops in to a warm (not hot) bath and soak - it is extremely moisturising this way and also works as an effective sleep enhancer because the essential oils are inhaled and encourage deep relaxation.
